So far so good! Now that you are eligible for the PMP exam, the next is to fill the application of PMP. For that, you need to follow the following simple 3 steps:
You need to visit the official PMI website http://certification.pmi.org
· Register yourself for a user account; it is free. Once done, please login to your PMI account.
· You can start filling the form now. If you wish not to fill entire form at once, you can fill some part of the form and then save it as draft. You can continue filling the form later – however your form info is saved for 90 days so you need to fill out and submit the application in that period.
Make sure you read the common mistakes that applicants do while filling the form. This will help you to get your form right in just one go. Also check out how I filled my PMP application form so as to get an idea on how to fill the form correctly.
Once you fill up all the details, the next part is to make payment. The fees for PMI members is $405 and for non-members it shall be $555.
It is strongly recommended that you go for membership of PMI because:
· The fees for membership is $129 (and additional $10 for first year) while difference in exam fee for members is $150 ($555 – $405)
· You get the free PDF of the PMBOK worth $200
Hence by becoming a PMI member, you are anyway saving much.
Once you have completed the application, comes the waiting period. You need to wait for up to 5 business days. An email is sent to you about the confirmation of your application approval.
Once done, then you need to wait, coz any of the following may happen
You will receive the confirmation to select the date & venue for the exam.
There is a very low probability that PMI will select you for an audit, you will be informed via email after you make payment. Ideally you get 90 days to submit your supporting documents to PMI, however it is recommended to send the same as fast as you can, here is the list of the documents that applicant need to send:

There is no reason which applicant is selected for audit, it is randomly selected by the system without any bias.
No data is available on how much applications are selected for audit, however there are some sites that suggest that for US Applicants 25% are selected for audit, and for Non US residents it is 0.25%. However, PMI had NOT issued any official statement and hence it cannot be verified.
It is not mandatory to fill the form and make payment immediately. You can fill half the application and save it as a draft which you can fill later. However the PMI saves your application for up to 90 days.
