There are gazillion myths that revolve around the internet regarding the PMP examination, also several other assumptions that aspirants have which are not true. So let’s go check out those 7 most common misconceptions about the PMP that will derail your focus:

PASSING PERCENTAGE is 61%

The most common myth is that the PMP exam can be passed with a score of 61%. Nothing could be farther than truth. There was a time when PMI officially stated the passing bar to be 61% however in the last decade, they had changed the format several time and now the exam is psychometric. So if you get an easy exam then the passing percentage shall be higher, while a tough exam would need lower passing percentage.

35 PDUs to apply

This is commonly mistaken by aspirants where they confuse the Contact Hours with the PDUs (Professional Development Unit). For applying the PMP exam, you need to have Contact Hours. After you clear the exam, you need 60 PDUs per 3 years to maintain the credentials; it is only for certified professionals.

ITTO should be mugged

Every PMP process have some ITTOs (input Tools & Techniques Output) which means each process have some inputs, there are tools and techniques that act on those inputs to provide some output. Many aspirants tend to mug them all up. It is suggested not to learn them, a simple understanding of the ITTO is good enough – not to learn it by heart.

Not many people had cleared PMP

Can I download PMBOK for free

Only if you are PMI Member, you can get the book for free. Else you need to purchase the books from amazon here. Kindly note, there are many torrent and other free sites that provide PMBOK (and other guides) for free however that is legal infringement of the copyright. Since, it Is already stressed enough that the aspirants should attain PMI membership, hence they can easily download latest PMBOK for free.

Half questions in exam will be about Agile

Since, recently in 6th edition, PMI had included Agile methodology in their curriculum. However, there are no guidelines by PMI that suggests the same. PMP exam relies more on predictive, agile & hybrid questions.

The application asked for audit is considered faulty by PMI

No, the PMI system randomly selects any application from the stack for the audit. There is no criteria, bias or parameter to decide which application would be considered for an audit.
